timbox.net :: Tim McConnell's Portfolio
Thanks for coming to timbox.net. This site serves as a portfolio and resume of my work.
One of the major ideas behind my work is simplicity. I believe that something can be much more beautiful and graceful by being simple. This is reflected in my site design and my art.
My objective is to find a final direction that I can grow with. I am looking to expand my skill set, and decide exactly what field I am going to go into before I finish my coursework. I am attending online classes at night, and I want to get some real-world, specialized experience, so that I know exactly what I need to do to get the most from my education.
I have attended DeVry University for 3 years, and I am currently working toward a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Technical Management with a specialty in electronics.
I am continuously working on the layout and design of this site - this is a very simple CSS layout...
Hobbies and interests
You will notice as you browse this site, many references to my cars – Volkswagen Sciroccos. I own three of them – all of the 1984 model year. I took my car into a mechanic about three years ago to have the alternator replaced. He took 6 days to fix it, and he charged me $460 for the job. This is a job I can now do with a new alternator from the auto parts store for $60, plus 15 minutes of my own labor to change it out.
It started with an alternator, but I continued to work on my own car, but at the same time, I was helping others with their repairs and overhauls. I started my Volkswagen Tech tips web site with just three articles. It has now grown to more than 70 articles. This site taught me from knowing nothing about HTML, to the point I am at today, writing accessible, standards-based XHTML + CSS code. The site has been an outlet for my creativity. I illustrate diagrams and schematics for the articles, and I typeset Printable PDF versions of the articles to make working in the garage easier on the visitors.
